What is Gingivitis?

Inflammation of the gums, usually caused by bacterial plaque buildup.
Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that causes irritation, redness, and swelling of the gingiva. It's usually caused by poor oral hygiene that allows plaque to build up on teeth. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis. The good news is that gingivitis is reversible with proper oral care.
